During my April term break I have chance to visit the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, they currently showcase all the winners of The White Elephant Art Award (Organized by Thai Beverage Public Company Limited) art works in the theme of Joyous Celebration. The exhibition have many amazing acrylic painting art works that reflects Thai cultures in each celebration occasion.
These are the art works that I really like, the first one is called “Welcoming Smile” it’s the art work that paint with oil on canvas. I like the painting as it makes me feel warm at heart. The painting with old grandpa with a warm smile and cute elephant (which we considered as the Thai’s national Animal) reflect Thai people are usually kind and welcoming. The second photo illustrate Thai temple where I really like the colour ranges they use on the sky and temple, and fabrics as it seems like a virtual image.
This is the art piece that win the excellent prize(second runner up) created by Suttipun Khaya. This acrylic on canvas art works called “Worshipping Phosop” really grabs my attention since the first glance, the colour of acrylic used are look like the real photograph. It gives me so much overwhelmed of sympathy and impressive at the same time. The photo is the real local farmers who worships the Phosop which known as the rice goddess of the Thai people or "Mother of Rice Prosperity”. We have rituals offering to praying the Rice goddess, as we believe that Khosop can e ensure everyone has enough to eat, besides in terms of cultivation stages is to ensure that famers has good harvest. So in this photo is related to how the Farmers / Villagers is praying for a good harvest during sunny day. This photo make me interpret on how daily basis of farmers’ life, what do they usually do and what food do they eat during the day. This photo was very impressed by one foreigner I have met at the exhibition. He told me that he loves this photo so much, it makes he wants to cry somehow. So the question that pop up from my mind is that actually there are so many amazing art works from hundreds local artists. but the reason that make this art work win the 2nd place is because it makes you feel something. It looks me 5 minutes until I move on to the next exhibition.
The last art works is called “Shining with Righteousness” by Narat Klinsudjai. It’s the engraving and LED work. Which has interesting 3D art work that all the object was layering into several faces of women. I find it’s creative and fun to watch as audience.
Overall this exhibition was full of good works and captured my heart so much, it’s so good to meet few foreigners visit the BACC in Thailand, and they were so impressive by it. I’m very proud of the Thai’s artist honestly.
