As on my first blog, I have mentioned about my goal on pursuing to open multi-label fashion & lifestyle store, develop my graphic design and do works relates to marketing and merchandising. All these goal still keeps in my mind. It’s still my main goal in the future after graduate. I’d say I have been through so many experiences throughout 1 year that groomed me few step closer to my future goal.

Based on my blogpost, I have done 3 interviews with 2 entrepreneur and/or business owner and 1 freelance MUA that hugely encourage me to pursue on what I love and wanted to do in the future. The interview with both one fashion retail owner (Ace Chia) and one multi-label store (Gloc) owner has taught me the key words of “Service is top notch” and “Expertises who works in company is really important”, this is what both of them highlighted to me on creating the online and offline retail business. I’ve learnt so much through their experiences. It helps me realised of what expertise I need to have as entrepreneur. To open the retail store you definitely need co-founders at least one or two. This would be easier with friends who have same passion in fashion and arts and be able to fulfilled expertise that you lack such as making clothes, calculate sales, and etc. However, connections are also really important if you wish to gain big achievement, whether it connection through influencers, marketer, journalism, and more. The more you know people the more opportunity would comes to you in many forms through friends and family. By interviewing them has helped me to prepared of what I need to build to become a successful entrepreneur.

I had a chance to interview the Singaporean freelance MUA (Jeremy Khoo) that is very talented and humble. He encourage me so much due to his hard work as freelance MUA and how he find inspiration on make up and develop his own skills everyday at dressing table. To be freelance MUA is easy, but to gain profit and be recognised in this competitive industry is hard. You need to put yourself out there by collaborating with friends or well-known person, and build your original portfolio as much as you could to be noticed. I’d say that I wouldn’t focused as freelance MUA since my main goal is to open the multi-label store. However, I’d do my best to build myself known as professional freelancer MUA in the future.

By volunteer and participated to so many events such as Tropicana Musical @ Capitol theatre, Bundies promoter at Takashimaya, Styling challenge at Fashion Pulpit, Work as marketing team for Xhibit event at Plaza Singapura, Visit Korea wholesale and retail market, and Eco bank volunteer has made me learnt so many aspect as event organiser, marketer, merchandiser, stylists, and buyers. I’ve learnt of what I’ve never known before, and gain many experiences that groomed me be well-rounded in various type of jobs related to fashion. It helps me to take actions in many aspect of jobs since I know how to do Merchandising, Marketing, Branding and in the real fields.

Moreover, the blog has given a chance to explore exhibition and participate competition all around the world from Singapore, Thailand, United Kingdom to Korea. Having blogpost encourage me to go out and explore arts, fashion, and design that I’m interested in. There are Luxury brand launch events and pop up stores, Talk with famous fashion designer / stylist and design competition for Ann Siang House and Valentine’s Architecture. All of these experiences have given new insight and implement my knowledge. I learnt and noticed how the brand organise such big events, what do they offered, and how do they manage bazaar and etc. I get to know more people from Raffles alumni, get job offers, and meet new friends from outside is what I find they’re the advantage part of being International Fashion Business students.

Last but not least, throughout all these experiences are truly fuel me to achieve as entrepreneur in the future. To be an entrepreneur you required wide ranges skills from branding, marketing, merchandising, styling, an eye for fashion, and management. So far I’ve found out that I enjoyed most of the part as doing merchandising, marketing, styling, and branding. I love to talk with customer and like to persuading people to buy things. Also, I’ve adequate skills in doing product design and branding due to my passion towards graphic design. As well as doing marketing at Xihibit event and styling is what I enjoyed. It made me known what I’m capable of and improvement I have had throughout the year.
