I went to the NTU School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) graduation exhibition on 16 May. I have seen so many great portfolios and creative design from the students. Inside the building there’re several rooms divide into each majors such as visual communication, photography, film, and etc. There are several art works that I admired which I will talk about it in below section.
The first one is from photography & digital imaging faculty, where they included selected photographs. The one that I like would be the photos of the relationship between a mother and a baby in the forest. The photo is well taken and the has beautiful meaning behind, which gives me a heart-warming feeling when I look at it on the left picture. Another work “Matter of absence” is another photographs that interest me. this one is about the photograph interpret the negativity into shadow and light forms in pictures. They create the vintage look book with pictures and quotes about creator’s thought mostly about their dark side and unpleasant experiences. The set of pictures on the left is my favourite, I like B&W pictures and this one is well taken of shadow picture.
I move on to the work from visual communication students, their design are all fantastic and you could tell they splash a lot of money on it. The art work that interest me is the “Transit” this is the zodiac / horoscope inspired theme. It captured my attention due to its colour used, I love pastel colour and the way she created that gradients colour are absolutely stunning!. I’m obsessed with astrology, and I spent for 30 minutes just to explore the “Astrological planet wheel” it’s about the 12 zodiac signs and their characteristic and the born stars. I’m Scorpio who has passionate, intelligent and jealous. I’d say that it’s not 100% corrected but it’s also part of my personality. My born stars in Venus which mainly about the “Beauty”. The next one is the design from “Companion of misery” by Denise Wong. I like the colourful marketing collaterals design. The name card is cleverly created that you can make it connected on the side of the card.
This one is the work from student majored in Films. I watched the short trailer from 6 different candidates in a small private theatre-like room. The pictures above showcase the winner team from short film trailer contest. It’s a comedy action movie about the soldier who fought each other inside the basement. I particularly do not know the full story but the trailer is creatively film that instantly grab your excitement while the rest of the trailers are more into rom-com, and drama that is not really shown the core / main point of the story.
Another section is more into story telling photography of the society norms, and the judgement towards different cultures, skin colours that society are misbelief and perceived into their point of views. People like to call Muslim people as “extreme”, African people as “black”, Introvert as “anti-social” and People with tattoo as “regret”. The pictures are well taken and illustrate how the majority of society is still very judgemental and racists, it make me realise that people shouldn't be called or given hated or bad interpretation by just their appearance and skin colours.
My experiences at the NTU School of Art, Design and Media (ADM) graduations works has given me so much motivation to do work. All of their works are definitely well design and they must have been spent a lot of money and dedicate so much time for their incredible work. I can see their hard-work and well thought behind the scene. As I have the graduation exhibition soon for International Fashion Business at Fashion pulpit. So I be able to get the inspiration on how to display product on my graduation day as well.
