FFI class going to the field trip at National Gallery Singapore on 20 November 2018 where they showcase the Minimalism : Space, Light, Object from 16 Nov 2018-14 April 2019. The class be able to join the exhibition for free due to students visa holder.

We first visited LED installation room which they called “Mega Deth" by Tatsuo Miyajima. This place refers to the scales of people who dead during 20th century or another meaning is the parallels of Buddhist cycle of life from death and rebirth (nationalgallery.sg, 2018). First we entered the room, inside were really dark and we couldn’t really see anything at first place (which refers to zero and being the void). We stand in the room and wait for something to happen for 5 minutes and the room start to turn up into blue lights which LED comes in different of numbers (from 9 to 1). More than 300 of numbers were show up in a square room, which I assume that its indicate numbers of people who are born. However, since this exhibition take quite long and we have limited time. So we move on to another exhibition without finish the show.

I moved on to the room where they showcase the fluorescent lights “Monument” for V.Tatlin, and black finished steel and finishing wire called “Impenetrable” by Mon Hatoum. I like the black wire installation where they make it looks like 3D cube. it’s eye-appealing and great for taking photos.

This work revealing the potential for division and violence embedded in the structures of everyday life 9nationalgallery.sg, 2018). I also got amazed by “Sunflower Seeds” work by AI Wei Wei where she put enormous of sunflowers seeds at exhibition which make me amazed how could see make it. Which her work reference to the vast Chinese population.

I can see many interesting several art works, but I’d say the last exhibition is my favourite!. I went to see the florescent light that display in a very psychedelic colours. Another interesting thing is the “Room for one colour” by Olafur Eliasson. This room consist of illuminated by mono-frequency lamps that make us see everything in yellow and grey. It’s very weird since everything in the room make us feels like we’re in the live action where they have VSCO filter. This experience illustrate that our perspective is not fixed but changes with environment, we can see the world from multiple perspectives.

Lastly, when we were outside we spotted a very cute art piece by David Madera which called “Cloud Canyons”. This art works is incredible on how they make the foam / bubble freeze as a shape of abstract sculpture. When you see form far away you can’t really tell it’s made from a bubble, which is very cool.

Overall experiences was really good and opened up my experiences and appreciate on the art work from every artists all around the world!
