As a GE class, The senior of International Fashion Business from Raffles has a chance to go to Seoul, Korea as chosen country for experience its fashion market and consumer behaviour. I’m very excited to go with classmate as this would be our first time together for overseas field trip. So I’m really looking forward to it. On day 2 of the trip, Betty which is one of our Event team has been helpful and being a guide to bring us to “Kitty Bunny Pony” flagship store in Mapo-Gu.
Kitty Bunny Pony is started as pattern design online brand in 2008. Which they finally established the flagship store in 2015. Since I’ve seen the glimpse of the store on my favourite K-pop Tv-show (Blanpink TV) before few years ago. So, I’m very excited to actually visit the actual store and be able to gain some knowledge and experienced from the 2 founders, Ms. Eunmi Park (The designer), and another guy (so sorry as he didn’t mentioned his name). Both of them are from JINJIN International Co., Ltd. who own this lifestyle brand. At the front you can see small white sign on the wall said “Maison Kitty Bunny Pony”, which the front they built the showroom where inside they sells those interior / architect / design books, and other stationary like pen, eraser and pencils. The main store is located at the back of showroom, 2 storeys of building where 1st floor display accessories like pouches, bags while upper floor has a range of interior and lifestyle products like curtains, canvas frame, cushion, and futons.
For the store layout, the inspiration behind is to create homely atmosphere store. I can see that their store is more like minimalistic + contemporary. Decorating mostly with the wooden with nicely organised of products within small space of 2 storey, I’d say they did it pretty well. Everything placed nicely section by section, make it easier for customers to find products. I like how they create small showroom for bedroom, dining room, and living room, to see the samples of how their products looks like if you used it at home.
The 2 founders are very polite and humble, as they just tell us a little of bit of how they get inspiration on design from almost everything they see. As Korean fashion is pretty much Minimalistic and Monotone, so they wants to create something colourful as for lifestyle products. Their product is seasonless, so all of their print design will be occurred from time to time (every month), and their product is never gets old. There’s rabbit iconic prints (on left photo) that has been designed 10 years ago still on sales with other new print designs. Only some new design will be done based on collaborations e.g. socks appeal : to create new prints for socks brand. The reason why they opened its flagship store, due to its famous from online first and they think that customer be able to do research of their brand via website and be able to buy in-store to experience the quality and see the real product. They mainly promote through their social media (Instagram / domain website). More than that, they plan to expand its branch into Japan, China, Singapore and Taipei in the future. What surprised me is that some of their products are specially made from Sweden e.g. kitchenware due to its technology that is more innovative.
This brand illustrate how Korean people is interested in art / niched market products. Based from their instagram with 75.8k followers (which mostly are Korean). One of the thing is they can design something unique and appeals to those niche market. In terms of my future career as owner of multi label store, I’m really eager to be their 3rd party to sells their product in Thailand. I believe this brand can reach to those niched market, as Thai’s consumer loves all things from Korea, and they love things that is unique itself. I believe that this brand could be popular among young women who are in high school / college in Thailand.
