Fashion Revolution Event is the event that showcase how the fashion industry must respect both people and environment. Whereby, events was held at the Cocoon space at Design Orchard on 27 April 2019, which everyone can be participate in this event with just RSVP on the given website. Everyone be able to participate in “Make your own shoes” workshop, learning tying head wraps, attend to the talk from Taff x Zerrin on “Breaking up with fast fashion” and the Fashion Revolution fashion show. The International Fashion Business students are involve in creating the Fashion Revolution Event. As a class, we all students from Fashion Design and International fashion business created the installation, games activities, fashion show, and show case zero waste garment for public.
Before the event, we all participate to set up the installation and game section. We got the second hand garments from Fashion Pulpit and help out each other arrange garments into colour wheel. Make it eye-catching to the audience who came into the event. More than that, we have created the Q&A game card and snakes and ladder section, I help out with setting up the space and cutting the cards. The Q&A and snake & ladder game card is to spread the knowledge of child labour across the globe. Showcasing the Fashion design student talents by created the zero waste garments; there’re Jackets and Top.
During the event, the class has split into group by session (for me from 5 - 7 pm) in charge of the installation and game section, we would be the one who take care of it and tell the audience how to play games and what is the zero waste garment is about. I had fun since I be able to communicate and get to know so many new people including fashion design students from Lasalle. I met the owner of kids wear brand who engage me to help them with the marketing business plan, since we’re International Fashion Business.
The last is the Fashion Show organise by International fashion business students from Raffles College of Higher Education. All the garments were sponsored by Fashion Pulpit, StyleTribute and Rentadella. I had chance to see glimpse of the behind the scene of how to they manage to do fashion show. I’d say the teamwork is very important since all the senior student be able to manage well on creating the hairdo and make up look. Also, from the registration team to those who are behind the scene are doing overall very good job. The fashion show was great, the outfit style in very bold and loud look. My favourite look is the picture on the left, I like it because of the colourful prints and accessories match well with total look.
I’ve learnt that from this event, we able to build so much connections through mutual friends or even with people we’ve never met before who have same interested, which is “sustainable fashion”. It’s a great place for us to showcase our talents, and meet new people, and learn the process of event organisation. In addition, it make me realise how people are more aware of how the industry effects the environment (from carbon footprint of chemicals-used) by follows 3R fashion, and effects on people who made the clothes e.g. spread the knowledge of low wages of workers in Bangladesh.
